Once upon a time, a little girl pretended to be a horse every day with her best friend. Such adventures they had! As she grew a little older the make-believe turned from being a horse to having a gorgeous stallion, that had been found on a remote island. Adventures as a child turned into reading books on horses and drawing them. When she was a teen, the closest she could get to the animal of her dreams was to help as a volunteer for individuals with disabilities or special needs though Equine therapy. Joy filled her heart to see lives being touched through her hands and the horses.
This now big girl moved away from a little town in the midwest to the far away jungles of Brazil. The jungle vines were more like skyscrapers, but the adventure was still the same. This time she would feel the joy of helping children come from living on the streets to becoming whole and able to dream again. She gave love to babies who had aids and needed healing and a home. She even taught simple art drawings to children from underprivileged homes. After more than 20 years in a land far away, and creating a family of her own, change is in the air as new adventures awaits her and her family.
This work of art I did in 4 days is a symbol of my life. A horse galloping swiftly through the ocean from one land to another. From the past, through the present, to the future. The best part is not the past or the future, but the present journey of galloping through the water with the spray of water droplets and wind flying through the mane.
Many times I would imagine life as that little girl dreaming of being a horse. Dreaming I could be or do something grand. Running from the past or just gazing toward the future…. But the most important is to enjoy the journey. The present. Every gush of wind in our face, every brush stroke on the canvas, and every giggle of a child who has the courage to dream and pretend!
